After nearly four years together, Marvel star Simu Liu and Interscope Records executive Allison Hsu have officially tied the knot. The couple celebrated their nuptials during a dreamy weekend in Provence, France, earlier this month, and they are finally sharing the beautiful details of their big day.
In an exclusive interview with Vogue published on October 13, the 37-year-old actor opened up about the emotional ceremony held at the picturesque Château d’Estoublon, describing the entire experience as "perfect."
A Serendipitous Ceremony
The couple, who originally met at a mutual friend’s Fourth of July barbecue in 2022, experienced a deeply spiritual moment right as their evening ceremony began. It had been raining off and on throughout the day, but the skies suddenly cleared just in time for the procession.
Liu shared that the gentle drizzle as his parents took their seats felt like a sign from his late grandparents, who raised him in China until he was four and who passed away from COVID-19 in 2021.
“The rainfall just before our ceremony was the most convinced I have ever been that something greater exists beyond our comprehension,” Liu revealed to Vogue. “Even as I think back to this moment, it defies my sense of rationality and logic. A part of me believes they were with us." The moment was so powerful that Liu deviated from his written vows to tell Hsu he believed his grandparents would have loved meeting her.
The emotional ceremony also included a special reading of Reverend Daniel Harris’ “Blessing of the Hands,” delivered by actor Woody Harrelson.
Honoring Their Heritage Through Fashion
Both the bride and groom made intentional choices to honor their roots through their wedding attire.
Hsu, whose parents were born and raised in Taiwan, walked down the aisle in a stunning gown by Nicole + Felicia, a bridal label founded by a Taiwanese sister duo. Meanwhile, the Shang-Chi actor opted for a custom look by the Asian-Canadian-founded menswear brand Garrison Bespoke, which he paired with a favorite Versace jacket.
A Star-Studded Celebration
The romantic weekend was capped off with an unforgettable reception. For their first dance as husband and wife, the newlyweds enlisted their friend, actress and singer Reneé Rapp, to perform a live rendition of the Etta James classic “At Last.”
Reflecting on the massive undertaking of a destination wedding, Hsu expressed immense appreciation for their guests. “Looking back, we’re just so overwhelmed with gratitude,” she shared. “We continue to be moved by the amount of time, energy, and coordination that our destination wedding required of everyone involved."
