It sounds like Rocky still has a few rounds left in him!
Sylvester Stallone recently shared that he has no plans to slow down his career anytime soon, and he has a very specific—and expensive—reason why.
During an appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark on Tuesday, October 13, the 80-year-old Tulsa King star was asked by co-host Kelly Ripa how much he’s planning to "pony up" for his eldest daughter Sophia Stallone’s upcoming wedding.
Stallone’s response was refreshingly honest and hilarious. “Oh, man, it’s almost embarrassing to say — but I can’t retire,” he replied, prompting massive laughs from the studio audience. “I can’t retire. I’m serious!”
The Engagement
Sophia, 30, announced her engagement to her boyfriend, Michael Sheehan, on August 28. She shared beautiful photos of the romantic proposal on Instagram with the caption, “Forever with my best friend ♾️.”
During the interview, Stallone was quick to praise his future son-in-law, calling Sheehan “a great guy.” He also shared that Sheehan bravely followed tradition and asked for his blessing before popping the question to Sophia.
“He actually asked for her hand,” Stallone revealed.
“He must have been terrified!” Ripa joked in response.
Stallone praised Sheehan for being “very confident” ahead of the proposal, joking, “I went, ‘Wow, good luck, pal.’” He also made sure to note that his wife of nearly 30 years, Jennifer Flavin, "had to be there to be referee” during the big ask.
A Rocky Reference
Co-host Mark Consuelos couldn't resist throwing in a reference to one of Stallone's most iconic movie moments: Rocky Balboa's proposal to Adrian in Rocky II.
“Did he say to you, ‘I wanna know if you wouldn’t mind if I married your daughter so much?’” Consuelos asked.
Stallone fired right back with another classic Rocky quote, quipping, “I won’t leave no hair in the sink.”
It seems like Sophia is in good hands, and her dad is more than ready to keep working to give her the wedding of her dreams.
